Stephen Dent has been designing and teaching about energy conserving and sustainable design for over 35 years. He is a partner in Dent & Nordhaus Architects, LLC and a full Professor at the University of New Mexico School of Architecture & Planning. He has written extensively on the subject and has presented their architectural work and his energy-related research at national and international conferences. Professor Dent typically teaches a graduate level design studio plus courses on Building Systems Integration and Architectural Lighting.

Academic knowledge of sustainable design principles and techniques is augmented by the practical knowledge gained through application in building design projects undertaken by Dent & Nordhaus, Architects, LLC. A number of passive solar and daylit projects have been designed and built over the years while more recent projects have also incorporated power generation, sustainable materials, and water harvesting systems.
